Raytheon Awarded Kuwait PAC Radar Upgrade

By Wendell Minnick

Dubai – Raytheon has announced a $20.5 million contract award via the U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program for spares to support planned Patriot Configuration-3 system radar upgrades for Kuwait.

The upgrade will enhance the radar’s ability to detect small targets in a cluttered environment, and enhance capabilities to discriminate and identify ballistic missile warheads. The contract calls for essential parts to support the sustainment of Configuration-3 radar systems.

“By upgrading to Configuration-3, Kuwait will have the latest Patriot technology to ensure mission readiness,” said Sanjay Kapoor, vice president, Patriot Programs, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems. “These enhancements bring a robust and proven capability to Kuwait’s air and missile defense units, and their ability to counter current and evolving threats.”

The contact complements a June 2008 FMS contract for $148 million to upgrade Kuwait’s Patriot system to Configuration-3.
